    - Demilitarize the Budget! Budget Advocacy Training March 24th, 2021 3pm-4pm ET

    Register Here

Each year, about two-thirds of the United States' budget is spent on militarized responses to problems—including the Pentagon, abusive immigration enforcement, and policing. This money could have had a transformative impact on things that would actually make our communities healthy, safe, and strong—like education, universal health care, or peacebuilding.

In this webinar, you'll learn why the United States' militarized budget is such a problem, how the budget and appropriations process works, and how you can get involved in the call to move money out of militarism and into our communities!

     Speakers Include:

    • Ashik Siddique, National Priorities Project
    • Savannah Wooten, Public Citizen
    • Grace Kindeke, AFSC
    • Moderator: Tori Bateman, AFSC

    - Milwaukee Protest - April 17

Global Days of Action on Military Spending Protest
    Saturday, April 17, 2021, Noon- 1 PM

US Army Reserve Drill Center 4850 W Silver Spring Dr, Milwaukee, WI

Milwaukee action during the International Peace Bureau’s Global Days of Action on Military Spending.

The sequester that has long tied U.S. spending for essential social services to the level of military spending has expired. We can now cut military spending without cutting spending for public health, housing, food assistance and green jobs. After a year-long pandemic, with all of the deaths and suffering it has caused, there is broad public and Congressional support for reducing military spending to revitalize the economy.

It’s time to end $1 trillion a year being spent on wars and the military, and for reductions in the Pentagon’s $2 trillion plan to upgrade the U.S. nuclear arsenal and its delivery systems,  and not to spend $100 billion to replace U.S. first strike and vulnerable land-based ICBM’s.

We have a new and growing Congressional Defense Spending Reductions Caucus, committed to cutting at least 10% of the Pentagon’s budget. Join the Peace Action WI Campaign to Reduce Military Spending.

A Tax Day Like No Other
Pressing for our budget priorities amid pandemic, economic and climate crises and new Cold Wars
Tax Day Community Rally - May 14 or 17, noon - downtown Boston
    Webinar – April 15, 7pm
As we move into the post-pandemic, Biden era, it’s time to change what we buy with our tax dollars. The pandemic and the resulting economic crisis illuminated glaring inequalities and the human costs of budget priorities that enrich the wealthy and left people unable to protect their health, hungry and homeless, while the military-industrial complex drowns in super-profits and paves the way for new and dangerous Cold Wars. Trillions have been spent chasing demons abroad and “bad hombres” at our borders, but Covid-19 bring us to our knees. The Biden Rescue Plan, with the child tax credit, unemployment, child and family care provisions, is bringing relief and hope to millions of Americans. But now the work begins to impact Congress debates over the national budget paid for by our taxes.
    Our Call:
    • Make the Rescue Plan’s safety net provisions permanent
    • Fund housing, healthcare for all, and education – forgive college loans
    • Pass the job creating, GREEN infrastructure bill
    • Tax the 1% and big corporations; create a wealth tax so everyone pays their fair share
    • Repeal the Trump $2 trillion tax cuts
    • Cut the Pentagon’s gargantuan budget to pay for what we need
    • Defund new nuclear weapons, cut F-35 and B-1 bomber

    - 30 April – International day of action against foreign bases

Demonstration at Menwith Hill US spybase

On 30th April as a part of the GCOMS called International Day of Action against Foreign Military Bases, there will be a protest outside the US spy-base at Menwith Hill organised by Menwith Hill Accountability Campaign and Yorkshire CND. There are now over 1,000 bases foreign bases around the world, operating largely outside of the control of their host nations. In response to recent expansion of US/NATO military forces in bases across Asia and Africa, this day of action was called to show solidarity and opposition around the world.
    Practicalities
Due to the ongoing health crisis this will be a socially distanced protest, with a couple of different options for walks around the base. We are not able to provide toilet facilities or refreshments on this occasion so we ask that everyone bears this in mind and brings what they will need for the afternoon.
Menwith Hill is the largest intelligence-gathering, interception and surveillance base outside the US. It has many roles which are generally for US interests only (diplomatic, military and economic) – being the hub of the ECHELON global surveillance system (Wikipedia). Menwith Hill featured heavily in Edward Snowden’s release of top secret documents which revealed the extent of the intelligence gathering and surveillance on us all by the NSA/CIA (with the help of GCHQ).

    - Conference - Threats of War: Britain’s New Global Role

    17 April @ 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Our government is desperate for Britain to play a global military role. Despite the pandemic, economic crisis and crumbling services, they boosted defence spending in 2020 by the biggest margin in years. They are refusing to withdraw support for the Saudi-led war on Yemen war and are keen to be partner No. 1 in the US push for a new cold war on China.
To illustrate their ambitions the government is dispatching an aircraft carrier strike group with US fighter planes on board to the Pacific in May ‘to make global Britain a reality’.

We, the undersigned, call for a major change in government priorities in the coming 2021 budget.

The writing is on the wall that we in Australia and countries around the world, urgently require a radical transformation of industry, transport and energy to avoid the worst of the climate crisis. With that transformation will come great opportunities for sustainable industry and ethical jobs.

Our government instead is pushing negative job creation through the manufacture of military equipment which both benefits the big weapons corporations as well as being sold to countries allegedly committing war crimes, such as Saudi Arabia.

We call on our government to prioritize spending in the upcoming budget on the transition to clean energy technologies, and stop funding arms corporations and businesses.

  • Korea (3)
    - DMZ Forum Peace Movement Session

21 May, international forum hosted by the local government.

    "Disarmament and Human Security"
The world spent an astronomical amount of $1,917 billion(2.377 quadrillion in KRW) of military spending in 2019 which is 2.2 percent of the world's GDP. It is increasing arms trade and arms production day by day. Military spending of South Korea is also the same. However, the COVID-19 pandemic and climate crisis are asking us what “security” should be to protect the earth and humanity. The world has spent astronomical amounts to prepare for war, but it has lost the opportunity to respond to what actually threatens human safety.

In this session, we will look at current levels of military spending globally from a critical perspective and discuss disarmament and the need to change the concept of security.

    Time : 15:10 pm - 16:30 pm (Seoul Time), 06:10 am - 07:30 am (UTC), 02:10 am - 03:30 am (EST) on 21 May 2021

Article by Quique Sánchez, GCOMS officer in Barcelona, on Gensuikyo’s April newsletter. This piece introduced the GDAMS 2021 to Gensuikyo's followers and activists, asking them to turn their eyes especially on the link between Japanese demand for nuclear abolition and the growing military expenditure of Japan for massive purchase of US fighter jets/weapon systems and building US military bases in Okinawa.
