BARCELONA PRESS CONFERENCE

25/04/2022

On Monday 25 April, the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) will publish new figures on global military spending for the year 2021, which shows a growing trend for the eighth consecutive year, surpassing the 1.98 trillion dollars revealed by the 2020 data. With the aim of critically presenting the new data and an analysis of the growing global militarisation in the context of the war in Ukraine, and also focusing on the case of Spain, and coinciding with the Global Days of Action on Military Spending (GDAMS) of the international campaign on military spending of the International Peace Bureau (IPB) coordinated from Barcelona, we are convening a press conference on Monday 25 April at 11:00 am at the headquarters of Lafede. cat (Carrer Tàpies, 1-3 Barcelona) and also via videoconference (from the media, contact premsa@centredelas.org to confirm attendance or to receive access credentials).

To offer an assessment of these issues we will be joined by the voices of renowned activists and analysts in the field of peace and global justice: Nora Miralles (president of the Centre Delàs d’Estudis per la Pau), Javi Raboso (head of the Culture of Peace campaign at Greenpeace), Kristian Herbolzheimer (director of the International Catalan Institute for Peace), Pere Ortega (researcher at the Centre Delàs, expert on military spending) and Quique Sánchez (member of the International Peace Bureau and the GCOMS campaign).
