April 18 - Department of National Defence's Military Recruitment Centre, Victoria
The world spends $1.7 trillion on military expenditures according to the latest figures from the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute. Last year, the Canadian government spent $28 billion on the Department of National Defence every year, but only $1.5 billion on Environment Canada, the lead agency on climate change. We cannot tackle climate change and end poverty & inequality if we continue to waste our precious tax dollars on war and weapons. The Canadian Voice of Women for Peace (VOW) joins the International Peace Bureau and partners around the world to demand that countries re-allocate military expenditures to urgent social and environmental needs. We also call for an end to the wars in Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan and Yemen. We demand that Canada get out the Middle East and get out of the US-led coalition Operation Inherent Resolve. We demand an end to Canada’s refuelling of the US-led bombings under Operation Impact. Demonstration is organized by the Canadian Voice of Women for Peace More info: www.vowpeace.org *We will have banners and chalk for you to write your message on the sidewalk outside recruiting centre.
