DAY OF ACTION AGAINST MILITARY SPENDING Monday, April 18 REPORT HERE Outside the Department of National Defence's Military Recruitment Centre - 827 Fort St, Victoria The world spends $1.7 trillion on military expenditures according to the latest figures from the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute. The Canadian government spends $23 billion on the Department of National Defence every year, but only $1.5 billion on Environment Canada, the lead agency on climate change. We cannot tackle poverty and climate change if we continue to waste our precious tax dollars on war and weapons. The Canadian Voice of Women for Peace (VOW) joins the International Peace Bureau and partners around the world to demand that countries re-allocate military expenditures to urgent social and environmental needs.
